18 timeframes, down to 1 second
From 1-, 5-, 15- and 30-second candles through minutes and hours to daily, 3-day, weekly and monthly. Timeframes a provider doesn’t offer directly are built from smaller candles. Pin your favourites to the toolbar with ★.
7 chart types
Candles, hollow candles, hollow up candles, Heikin Ashi, OHLC bars, line and area.
Linear, log and percent scales
A log scale shows long-term moves in proportion; the percent scale shows every candle as a change from the first one on screen.
Up to four charts at once
Split the screen into one, two (side by side or stacked), three or four charts, each with its own symbol, timeframe and indicators. Turn on Link symbol to change them all together.
Synced crosshair
Hover one chart and the others show the same moment in time, and the same price when they show the same symbol.
Saved layouts
Save the whole workspace (every chart, indicator and setting) under a name and switch between layouts in one click.
Compare symbols
Overlay up to three other symbols, rebased to the main chart, to compare performance.
Chart settings
Candle colours (including a colour-blind friendly blue/orange preset), grid lines, last-price line, high/low marks and the timezone for intraday candles.
Light and dark themes
Follows your device’s setting until you pick one with the toggle.
Share, save and export
The address bar always links to the symbol and timeframe you’re viewing. Save a PNG snapshot of the chart, or export the candles as CSV.
Indicators
40 built-in technical indicators, with no limit on how many you use at once.
Volume profile
See how much volume traded at each price across the bars on screen, split into buying and selling, with the point of control and value area marked. It redraws as you scroll and zoom.
Candlestick patterns
Engulfing, hammer, shooting star, morning and evening star, three soldiers and crows, piercing line, dark cloud cover and doji, marked on the chart. Hover a candle to see its pattern.
Trend and moving averages
MA, EMA, WMA, Hull MA, VWAP, Ichimoku Cloud (with the projected cloud), Supertrend, Parabolic SAR, BBI, pivot points and average price.
Volatility and channels
Bollinger Bands, Keltner Channels, Donchian Channels and ATR.
Momentum and oscillators
RSI, MACD, Stochastic RSI, KDJ (stochastic), CCI, Williams %R, Awesome Oscillator, ROC, momentum, TRIX, DMI/ADX, BIAS, PSY and DMA.
Volume
Volume with its moving average, OBV, MFI, PVT, VR, EMV, BRAR and CR.
Adjustable settings
Change periods and other inputs for each indicator. Your settings become the default for new charts.
Drawing tools
21 tools in six groups on the left-hand toolbar (the corner arrow on each opens the rest). Drawings are saved for each symbol in your browser.
Lines and levels
Trend line, ray, extended line, horizontal line and ray, vertical line, price line and price tag.
Channels and patterns
Parallel channel, price channel, pitchfork, rectangle, arrow and trend angle (shows the slope in degrees).
Fibonacci
Fibonacci retracement and a three-point Fibonacci extension with levels from 0.618 to 2.618.
Trade planning
The long/short position tool shows entry, target and stop with percentages and risk-to-reward. The measure tool shows the price change, percentage, bars and time between two points.
Notes
Text notes (double-click to edit), annotations and a freehand brush.
Style, lock and delete
Right-click any drawing to change its colour, line width and style, lock it in place, or delete it. Magnet mode snaps points to candle highs, lows, opens and closes.
Undo, redo and shortcuts
⌘/Ctrl+Z undoes drawing changes and ⌘/Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes them. Delete removes the selected drawing. Alt/Option plus a letter picks a tool: T trend line, H horizontal line, F Fibonacci, R rectangle, P position, M measure.
Custom scripts
Write your own indicators and strategies in JavaScript, with helpers modelled on Pine Script.
Familiar helpers
Use ta.sma, ta.rsi, ta.macd, ta.crossover, ta.supertrend and 30 more, plus input(), plot(), hline(), plotshape() and bgcolor().
Settings for your scripts
Declare inputs with input.int, input.float, input.bool and input.source, then change them from the indicator panel without touching the code.
Other timeframes
request.security('1D', (d) => ta.sma(d.close, 50)) works out a value on daily candles and lines it up with the chart you’re on, without looking ahead.
Safe by design
Scripts run in an isolated sandbox with a time limit. They only see price data and can’t reach your API keys, the page or the network.
Alerts from your scripts
alertcondition(cond, 'message') alerts you with a sound, a message and a browser notification when your condition turns true on a live candle.
Editor and sharing
A code editor with line numbers, error messages that point to the line, built-in examples, and share links that let someone else import your script.
Strategy backtesting
Turn a script into a strategy and see how it would have traded.
Simple strategy commands
strategy.entry(), strategy.close() and strategy.close_all(), with starting capital, position size, commission, stop-loss and take-profit.
Realistic fills
Orders fill at the next candle’s open. Stops and targets are checked inside each candle, and the stop is assumed to hit first when both could.
Strategy report
Net profit, buy-and-hold comparison, win rate, profit factor, maximum drawdown, average and best/worst trade, and time in trade.
Equity curve and trade list
See the equity curve against buy-and-hold, click any trade to jump to it on the chart, and export all trades as CSV. Entries and exits are marked on the chart.

Trade on your own account
Connect Alpaca (US stocks, ETFs and crypto), Tradier (US stocks) or OKX (crypto) and place market, limit and stop orders from the chart, see positions and open orders, and close or cancel them. Each has a practice mode. Keys are encrypted with your passphrase and sent only to the broker, and every real-money order asks for confirmation.
Paper trading
A practice account kept in your browser. Place market, limit and stop orders, go long or short, and track equity, open P/L, fees and history. Positions and orders appear as lines on the chart, and pending orders fill against live prices.
Order book and depth chart
Live bids and asks for crypto pairs on Binance, Coinbase, OKX and Kraken, with price grouping, a depth chart and the balance between buyers and sellers. Click a price to place a paper limit order there.
Watchlist
Keep a list of symbols with last price and daily change, refreshed every 15 seconds for crypto. Click one to load it.
Bar replay
Hide the future and replay history candle by candle, at up to 10× speed, to practise reading the chart.
Alerts
Know when price reaches your level.
Price alerts
Set as many alerts as you like. When price crosses one you get a sound, an on-screen message and, if you allow it, a browser notification.
Background checks
Alerts on open charts react instantly. Crypto alerts on other symbols are checked every 30 seconds while FreeCharting is open.
On the chart
Each alert shows as a dashed line on its chart, so you can see where your levels are.
Candle countdown
For crypto, the status bar counts down to the close of the current candle on any timeframe.

Questions
Is every feature really free?
Yes. There’s no paid tier: multi-chart layouts, all 40 indicators, scripts, backtesting, alerts, replay, paper trading and the screener are all free. Stock and forex data comes from providers with free plans, using your own key.
Do I need an account?
No. Everything is saved in your browser. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, your layouts, drawings and scripts don’t come with you.
Can I trade with real money?
Yes, if you connect your own Alpaca, Tradier or OKX account in the Trade tab. Orders go straight from your browser to the broker, and every real order asks for confirmation. FreeCharting never holds your money and never sees your keys or orders. Paper trading uses practice money only.
