Trade from the chart

Supported brokers

Connect your own account in the chart’s Trade tab and place orders without leaving the chart. 12 brokers and exchanges are supported. Orders go straight from your browser to the broker; FreeCharting never holds your money or sees your keys.

What each broker supports

Every broker supports market, limit and stop orders, shows your balance, positions and open orders, and lets you close positions and cancel orders from the chart (DXtrade has a limit on cancelling, explained below).

How it works

  1. Open the chart, go to the Trade tab in the right-hand sidebar and choose Connect a broker or exchange.
  2. Pick your broker and whether it’s a practice or real account, then paste the keys or login it asks for.
  3. For a real account, choose a passphrase. It encrypts your keys in this browser, and you enter it once per session to unlock trading.
  4. Place orders from the ticket, or close positions and cancel orders from the lists below it. Real orders always ask for confirmation first.

Not supported yet

  • Changing an open order. Cancel it and place a new one instead.
  • Trailing stops and options. Use your broker’s own platform for these.
  • Automatic trading. Alerts, scripts and backtests never place real orders; every order is placed by you.
  • Deposits, withdrawals and statements. Manage your money and history on your broker’s site.
  • Some brokers. Tradovate, Interactive Brokers, MetaTrader 4 and 5, cTrader, Coinbase and Kraken can’t be connected, because their trading APIs need a server between you and them.

Questions

Is it safe to enter my keys?

Your keys are encrypted with a passphrase you choose and stored only in this browser. They are sent only to your broker, never to FreeCharting, which has no server that could see them. Real accounts lock after 30 minutes without activity.

Can I practise first?

Yes. Every broker except HTX and DXtrade has a practice account you can connect, and FreeCharting’s own paper trading account needs no broker at all.

Why does every order ask for confirmation?

On a real-money account every order and every close shows a confirmation with the details first, so a stray click can’t send an order.

My broker isn’t listed. Can it be added?

Only if its trading API accepts requests from a web page. Some brokers, such as Tradovate, Interactive Brokers, Coinbase and Kraken, don’t, and adding them would need a server in between that would see your keys.

Ready to trade from the chart?

Start with a practice account, or FreeCharting’s own paper trading.
